Learn how the Discountify Browser Extension collects, handles, stores, discloses affiliate partnerships, and protects your data.

Your privacy is critically important to us. The Discountify Browser Extension is designed to be privacy-first. This Privacy Policy comprehensively discloses how we collect, handle, store, retain, and share user data in full compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.

1. Collection of User Data

We believe in complete transparency regarding all user data, browsing information, and technical telemetry processed by the extension:

  • Website Domain URLs (Web Browsing Data): When you visit an e-commerce website or view search engine results, the extension detects the current website's hostname/domain name (e.g., example.com) and sends it over encrypted HTTPS to our backend servers at api.discountify.io. This lookup is performed solely to query and display active verified coupon codes and deal counts for that store. Full URL paths, query strings, web page contents, personal search history, and individual browsing profiles are never collected, stored, or recorded.
  • Local Device Storage & User Preferences: The extension stores user preference settings locally on your device via chrome.storage.local. This includes notification snooze timers, UI display preferences, active language selection, search notification toggles, and temporary cached domain responses.
  • Interaction & Telemetry Data: When you copy a discount code, click a deal button, or indicate whether a coupon worked, the extension sends anonymous interaction telemetry (such as coupon ID and success/failure status) to our servers to keep coupon databases accurate.
  • Optional Email Submissions: If you voluntarily submit a request for an unsupported store via the extension popup, we collect the email address you provide solely to notify you when coupon coverage for that store becomes available.
  • No Sensitive Personal Identifiers: We do not collect personal identifiers such as your real name, physical address, IP address logs for tracking/profiling, passwords, financial/credit card numbers, or full browsing history.

2. Use and Handling of User Data

All data collected or processed by the Discountify Browser Extensionis used strictly for purposes directly related to providing and maintaining the item's single purpose:

  • Single Purpose (Automated Deal Discovery): Matching visited merchant websites with active coupon codes, verifying code validity, and applying discounts during checkout.
  • User Preferences: Persisting snooze states, language choices, and alert display preferences across your browsing sessions.
  • Technical Diagnostics: Monitoring backend lookup latency, maintaining API security, and preventing abusive automated queries.
  • Strict Policy Guarantees: User data is never used or transferred for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose. User data is never used to determine creditworthiness or for lending evaluations.

3. Storage, Protection, and Retention of User Data

We employ industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect user data:

  • Encryption in Transit: All communications between the extension and api.discountify.io are encrypted using standard HTTPS (TLS 1.2/1.3).
  • On-Device Local Storage: User preferences and local coupon caches reside exclusively on your local device via Chrome's secure chrome.storage.local API.
  • Data Retention Period: Local browser storage persists until you clear your browser data or uninstall the extension. Server-side technical API request logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days for technical performance monitoring and security defense, after which they are permanently deleted or anonymized. Voluntary email submissions for store requests are retained until the requested store coverage is added or until deletion is requested.

4. Sharing and Disclosure of User Data

We disclose information only to specific categories of third parties under strict operational parameters:

  • Affiliate Networks & Merchant Partners: When you voluntarily click a coupon code or deal link, your browser is redirected to the merchant store via authorized affiliate networks (including Awin, TradeTracker, CJ Affiliate, Rakuten, Impact, and Daisycon). This sets an affiliate tracking cookie on the merchant website to credit referral commissions. No personal browsing profiles or identity data are shared with these networks.
  • Infrastructure Providers: API requests pass through secure cloud infrastructure providers (Cloudflare and Vercel) strictly for web hosting, API routing, and DDoS mitigation.
  • Explicit Guarantee — Zero Data Selling: We do NOT sell, rent, trade, or license user data, personal information, or browsing history to third parties, data brokers, or advertisers under any circumstances.
  • Legal Requirements: We will only disclose information if required to comply with a valid court order or applicable law.

5. Affiliate Program & Referral Disclosure

In accordance with Chrome Web Store disclosure policies:

  • Affiliate Referral Commissions: Discountify is supported by merchant partnerships. When you click coupon links or activate deals through the extension, we may receive an affiliate referral commission from our merchant partners at zero extra cost to you.
  • Prominent Disclosures: This affiliate model is disclosed in this Privacy Policy, on our Chrome Web Store listing page, and directly within the extension user interface popup.

6. User Rights, Privacy Controls, and Data Deletion

You retain full control over your data and extension notifications:

  • You can snooze extension alerts for 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, or permanently from the extension popup or settings menu.
  • You can toggle search result notifications or floating widget hints on or off at any time.
  • You can delete all locally stored data by clearing Chrome extension data or uninstalling the extension.
  • Under applicable privacy regulations (GDPR / CCPA / CPRA), you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data you provided (such as store request email submissions) by contacting our privacy team.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to comply with regulatory changes or reflect updates to extension functionality. Any changes will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
